Why is it Important to Vote?

All issues are Trans issues.

From wanting to strengthen our infrastructure to addressing climate change, to creating better immigration laws, solving employment issues, addressing the housing crisis, defending against attacks on bodily autonomy, tackling the surge of violence in our country, to protecting democracy and everything beyond – all of this and more – every single one of these issues impacts Trans and Intersex people more disparately than any other community. In fact, Disabled QTIBIPOC (Queer, Trans, & Intersex, people of color) are the most impacted community in the world by these issues.

All people, regardless of race, gender, class, or ability deserve to thrive. But as of now, we have yet to see this.

Members of the trans community have faced unreasonable obstacles and hurdles, many of which have discouraged them from casting their ballots. We don’t see ourselves reflected in the systems around us, so why should we bother? This disenfranchisement is by design.

Whether it’s because of obstacles that we face when trying to cast our ballots or our own apathy toward the systems that continue to fail us, 20% of the Trans population fail to represent themselves in the polls.

But voting is one of the most powerful ways that an individual living in a democratic society can be heard. If it wasn’t, oppressors and opponents of our communities wouldn’t spend so much time, energy, and money to silence us would they

Don’t let anyone continue to steal your power!

This year, we are working to ensure that everyone who wants to vote can and to make sure that our community is no longer ignored by working together to queer up the vote! Make a commitment to cast your ballot, and join us on Nov. 8th as we celebrate our participation in Democracy.
